Character Animation 1

Translate Acting and Movement in 3D
Working with the tools Maya has to offer, this course addresses how to translate acting and movement in 3D. From the graph editor to the dope sheet, from inverse kinematics to forward kinematics, students will learn how to take poses and create fluid movement through timing and spacing. Projects range from cycles (bi-pedal, quadra-pedal) to pure performance-driven animation. Students will take their ideas and tests to a final, finished piece for portfolio.

Character Animation 11: Facial Animation

This module picks up where Character Animation I left off, moving from the body to the character’s head and face. Various tools, with an emphasis on morph targets (blend shapes), will be utilized to allow the character to talk and show emotion. Students will become acquainted with methods for lip-syncing and apply what they had learned to impart personality.

Character Animation 1: Body Motion

From simple mechanical animations the students will now begin to work on the more complicated process of character animation. Students will utilize constraints with Forward and Inverse Kinematics to pose and manipulate a rigged character model. Bones, morph targets, and a variety of other deformers will be used first for character body motion. Students will also learn the significant impact rigging stage plays in successful animation and what factors make for a good or bad character rig.
