Community Health Nursing

Students will concentrate on nursing roles in different settings in the community. Prevention, primary care, influences on health, and nursing strategies will be discussed.

This course expands the focus of health care to the community and populations. Students assess and affect the health of individuals, families and communities through participation in home visits, health screening, health promotion clinics and education activities. The course addresses environmental health and safety, epidemiology and communicable disease control affecting health of populations. Students review critical analysis of research and the role of the nurse as a change agent in forming public health policy

This postgraduate diploma enables nurses to qualify as community specialist practitioners able to influence and facilitate change within the community environment. You will spend half of the course on work placement in a specialist practice of your choice. You will also undertake a combination of core and professionally-specific modules, the latter of which you undertake during the practice-based component of the course.
