Interior Design and Decoration (Diploma)

What will you learn in the Interior Decoration course?
This nationally recognised course provides education in the theoretical and practical aspects of interior decoration.

The course is designed for people who want to enter this industry in a freelance capacity, as the owner / manager of a small business or as a decorator / designer / manager in a design related practice.

You will learn about:
�Solving problems creatively through innovative solutions
�Producing creative contemporary designs with regard to historical, socio-economic, political and environmental influences
�Producing creative solutions within domestic and commercial contexts
�Development of business, planning, project and financial management skills.

You will also learn leadership skills, time management skills, how to work productively with others and how to communicate ideas effectively.

This course is designed to introduce participants to the fundamental principles of interior decoration and to equip them with skills and knowledge that will allow them to apply those principles to basic decoration projects.

The skills and knowledge that will be studied include the elements and principles of design, basic materials and finishes, an introduction to history of decoration styles, colour choice, the selection and placement of furniture, sketching and presentation techniques and the preparation of presentations for clients. Presentation techniques will be developed in practical studio projects. Mood boards and materials boards for presentation of a decoration scheme will be produced in this course.

This course is for persons who want to work as interior decorators or colour consultants in retail, consulting and
building businesses.

The course will provide you with formal training in interior decorating, with specific focus on the development of the
relevant skills and theory and their application to the decoration of interior spaces and providing sales skills supporting
the provision of products and services considered to be part of interior decorating. The course will also include
competencies specific to interior decoration (eg. mostly working with residential clients or from a retail studio / shop
location, with emphasis on soft furnishing, colour application and decorative objects). You will learn to analyse how the
space is to be used, who is to use it and the atmosphere to be created. Decorators prepare plans and 3D drawings,
colour schemes and furniture selections for a client.

course contents include starting your event planning business, intro to event decorations, backdrops,props and lights usage, decorating techniques, sourcing materials, the business of event decor.Categories of floral arrangements, floral arrangement designs for weddings, dinners,corporate events.

Case study on some event planners in the nigerian industry,
Practical hands on training using real venues and events, floral workshop using freas flowers. All facilitators are either event planners, decorators and florist of distinction
