Drawing and Painting (Certificate) Discover your artist within and develop basic skills in drawing, painting and mixed media. Explore technical, philosophical and historical tools in the discipline of making art as you work toward a more fully realized personal style, express your creativity and find your own visual voice. This program is open to all adults with an interest in developing drawing and painting skills. The program culminates in a showing of student work at an art show on the UW campus. Drawing and PaintingThis multi-media class for 8-12-year-olds will focus on drawing and painting techniques. Students will develop their artistic skills while enjoying a safe, fun, nurturing environment on a university campus. Students will draw a variety of subjects including people, animals, still life and imaginary characters using ink, marker, soft and oil pastels. Students will learn a selection of watercolor techniques and paint in both watercolor and tempera. Emphasis will be placed on art principles and elements at the individual level.

Drawing and Painting (Certificate)This course is designed for those who would like to extend their skills and creativity in the use of drawing and painting media. The course involves the use of a wide variety of media and materials, both conventional and unconventional, in the exploration of creative ideas, and the development of a personal visual language.
The course is intended to allow students to develop more advanced drawing and painting skills, and to allow them the opportunity to explore elements such as line, tone, colour, perspective and composition in depth. The course also examines the language of drawing and painting in a variety of contexts, both as an exploratory tool, and as a means of creating finished works of art. Students will work from a wide range of primary and secondary sources, and will learn how to use drawing and painting as the basis for personal creative interpretation.

This course leads to the award of the Level 2 Certificate in Design and Craft from the City & Guilds of London Institute, the UK’s leading provider of vocational qualifications.
