Fashion and Contour Design Workshop This highly creative and practical course gives the opportunity to explore and develop design and application possibilities in contour and fashion. The course develops research, design, technology, visual communication, marketing and entrepreneurial skills through progressive modules each year.
In year one, you acquire a broad knowledge base and skills in contour and fashion design as well as in CAD and contextual studies. Year two introduces skills to communicate and market abilities and design work. Progressive Fashion and Contour Design develops illustration, technical drawing and CAD. Options include CAD and Computer Grading, Style and Colour, Bras and Basque Design and Special Occasion Wear.
In the final year you will initially engage in Advanced Pattern Cutting, an External Client Project and a Catwalk Project. You will work towards your Major Project which demonstrates the success of your research and xperimentation. Work is supported by staff input into professional practice and regular stage reviews.
Teaching/assessment Teaching and assessment vary according to the nature of each module. Workshops cover the practical and theoretical aspects of pattern cutting and garment construction. Individual design practice and commercial design projects are supported by lectures, seminars, self-directed study, formative assessment and group critical reviews. Learning through making is a key component of this course.
