The study and practice of advanced techniques in planning and writing feature stories. Emphasis on individual performance through criticism of student work in conference with the instructor. Fulfills the College of Arts and Letters writing-intensive requirement for the major.

Introduction to feature writing is an intensive course which gives you a better grasp of all aspects of feature writing, from generating ideas to submitting work.

Writing a feature can often prove to be the most difficult skill associated with journalism. This course aims to give you the knowledge and confidence to produce high quality features again and again.

Training is provided by means of classroom teaching and practical exercises carried out under guidance. Sessions cover what makes a good feature, and how to impress editors; the importance of style and structure; and how to write headlines and proofread copy.

This course offers training and practice in writing and evaluating news, commentaries, and features for print media. Students will gain confidence composing economical prose for newspapers, newsletters, in-house publications, and on-line services.
