IBM WebSphere Portal V6.0

In this course, you will gain the necessary skills to install, configure, troubleshoot, and manage WebSphere Portal Server. You will learn to configure WebSphere Portal Server to use a database and to utilize a Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) directory. Learn to deploy resources such as portlets and pages, and learn to manage virtual Portals and composite applications. You’ll cover Portal installation troubleshooting and you’ll learn to configure access control and attribute-based administration on Portal resources

This intermediate course is designed for portlet application developers, integration specialists, and software architects responsible for developing solutions using IBM WebSphere Portal V6.


Skills Taught

After completing this course, students should be able to:

Use the development environment provided in Rational Application Developer V7.0 to develop, test, and debug portlets and portlet applications
Write portlets using the JSR 168 portlet API
Describe the portlet life cycle and the service provided by the portlet container
Use the portlet tag library to build JSPs for servicing multiple devices and global reach
Work with the portlet services framework to access extended services available to portlet applications via the portlet container, including the credential service vault, the property broker, and others
Describe Java Server Faces (JSF) and the SDO programming model
Demonstrate branding, themes, skins, and portal development tools
Explain how to integrate Ajax technology within WebSphere Portal

Using a combination of self-guided activities and knowledge, this self-paced course includes a series of tours of an IBM WebSphere Portal application. During the tour, students will see how WebSphere Portal delivers a unified, single point of personalized interaction with applications, content, business processes, and people. Students will see how WebSphere Portal applications are constructed by touring the administration and development tools. This course also describes the WebSphere Portal architecture, installation considerations, security, and typical user functions and tasks.
