LLM - Master of Law and Taxation Alabamas LLM in Taxation Program is one of the most innovative in the country. Though the use of online technology, it bridges the gap between traditional distance education and live classroom instruction. Students interact with professors during class times via the internet and may also access course materials on a website and communicate with instructors by e-mail.
The Graduate Tax Program leads to the LLM in Taxation upon the completion of 24 semester hours of graduate course work. The course of study allows for completion of the degree in six semesters, covering two calendar years.
Applicants may seek admission as degree or non-degree candidates. This program is also unique in that it offers practicing lawyers an educational opportunity to obtain an advanced degree in tax law without having to pay the expense of living in residence. Courses in the program are taught by distinguished faculty and experienced practitioners not just from Alabama but also from instructors at Emory, Georgia State and other institutions or law firms throughout the Southeast. The instructors provide an in-depth but broad-based curriculum in tax.
The LLM degree prepares students for a practice specializing in tax law, and The Law School provides career services to support its tax graduates, not the least of which is access to available positions through the Law Schools alumni network, which is more than 6,000 strong and includes graduates in cities throughout the Southeast.
