Linux development skills
The development of new Shell scripts and the maintenance of existing ones, in a manner that offers easy understanding to others, is fundamental to a successful Linux installation. These Shell scripts can then be used to automate tasks and functions either independently or interactively.
Course Objectives
To give delegates a good working knowledge of how to manipulate the shell as an environment interface and how to fully utilise the shell programming language.
Skills Gained
Use the various shell quoting mechanisms appropriately.
Write simple scripts to enhance basic command output.
Manipulate shell variables and user-defined variables in scripts.
Implement conditional execution facilities.
Use the shell’s built-in loop constructs where appropriate.
Write scripts to trap user interrupts.
Develop menu-driven shellscripts.

Linux Shell Programming

The shell acts as an intermediary between the user and the operating system, and acts a a command interpreter, interpreting what you type at the command line into a form the operating system can understand. The default command line interpreter for Linux is BASH.
Shell programming is very powerful feature in Linux and complete programs can be written using shell command procedures. Shell scripts are widely used by the operating system and can also greatly simplify the job of the system administrator.

This training course is intended for existing Linux users who wish to learn how to create and use shell scripts to maximum advantage.
