MBA in Finance Workshop (Master Degree) This MBA brings to the fore current thinking in management and financial education and will develop critical thinkers with effective problem solving skills at managerial level. An induction covers the fundamentals of management education ? a refresher for business graduates or an introduction for non-business graduates. Core modules then broaden and critically examine key business and management fundamentals, integrated by modules in strategic management, equipping you with the ability to think conceptually and holistically.
The core modules will comprise:
Strategic Management I Understanding Contemporary Organisations Markets and Marketing Corporate Performance Management Strategic Management II Research Methodology. In addition to the academic modules you will also undertake workshops on Critical Skills and Reflective Practice. You will undertake optional modules, allowing for focus in the area of finance. The choice of optional modules/electives will comprise (as at date of publication):
Risk Management Strategic and Financial Decision-making International Finance Mergers and Acquisitions. Further to the taught element of the course you will also be expected to undertake either a traditional research-based dissertation or a 12 week strategic management in-company project based at a UK company or organisation. Should you choose the dissertation you will complete two electives from the above list, and if you choose an in-company project you will select all four electives. Either the dissertation or in-company project must be based on a topic that will link strategic management to the area of financial management.

MBA IN FINANCE (Master Degree)The Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Finance program aims to give individuals currently employed in the finance industry, or who have completed their undergraduate degrees, an opportunity to upgrade and refine their current skills.
This program focuses primarily on the banking, insurance, and financial services industries. It spans three particular areas of concentration: private finance, corporate finance, and banking and insurance management.

MBA in Finance (Master Degree)The Duquesne University Investment Center introduces students to a wide variety of technologies that are used by investment professionals around the world. Having real-time access to worldwide stock, bond, commodity, futures, currency and options data, students and faculty conduct a variety of analytical projects and research. Coursework assignments leverage the investment center extensively, and many courses meet in the center for on-site, personal instruction.
Students are first introduced to the Investment Center in their freshman year, and are encouraged to use the resources of the Center through a variety of courses. Among the resources in the center are Bloomberg®, Reuters®, Morningstar®, Ibbotson®, Compustat®, CSI® and KLD® databases. Beyond the broad exposure offered through coursework assignments, student-members of the Duquesne Asset Management Group (DAMG) and Red & Blue Advisors, LLC use Investment Center resources in investment decision-making. Students may also, via independent study, earn Bloomberg Equity and Fixed Income Certification.
The Investment Center is conveniently located in Rockwell Hall and operates on extended hours to provide students generous access to this resource. Using the Investment Center, students save time on the data collection process and are able to re-invest that time in more productive analytical work. All of the databases in the Investment Center interface with Excel® to support quick downloading and efficient spreadsheet development. Staff, including a professional manager of the Center, is always available to assist students and extensive documentation is available for reference. Finance is concerned with the acquisition and allocation of resources - how a company goes about financing the assets it needs to run a business and how those assets can be put to their most effective uses. It also requires the comprehensive understanding of the corporate capital structure, the sources of capital, and, the priorities, needs and concerns of investors (shareholders and lenders). This major prepares individuals for a career in the finance division of all types and sizes of companies addressing issues in financial management; corporate finance, venture capital and corporate restructuring, as well as in management consulting.
