Autodesk Maya is the leading 3D animation program used in some of the biggest Hollywood blockbusters. This intensive hands-on course is designed to give you a solid introduction to the world of 3D animation with Maya Unlimited 2009.

What will be covered
Understanding Maya’s user interface
Creating models using primitives, curves and surfaces
Editing and animating using Maya’s construction history
Creating and applying shaders and textures using Maya’s Hypershade panel
Setting keyframes to animate objects then editing the results in Maya’s Graph editor and Dope sheet
Applying deformers to surfaces then animating the results
Rendering still images using Maya’s IPR and animations using Maya’s batch renderer
Adding particles into a scene that are influenced by forces, such as gravity, and collisions

Maya 2009: Modeling and Animation

This intermediate-level Maya course focuses on the ins and outs of setting up a character for animation in Maya. Some topics to be tackled include Joints, Inverse Kinematics, Constraints, creating controllers, Set Driven Keys, Skinning and painting weights.

Also included is Maya’s non-linear animation editor, the Trax Editor.

Maya 2009: Special Effects

This advanced course in Maya focuses on Rendering. The class continues from where the Foundation course leaves off with regard to texturing and lighting.

Some topics covered will be the different types of materials, such as Blinn, Phong, Lambert and Anisotropic. Also covered are advanced shaders and shading networks, as well as the different types of lights, their characteristics and their uses.

Global Illumination and Final Gather using the award-winning Mental Ray renderer will also be tackled.
