Learning outcomes: This course will help delegates to acquire the basis skills for measuring and valuing work carried out under building contracts using the JCT2005 Standard Building Contract
Aims and Objectives To enable delegates to:
Be aware of the status of the Contract Bills or other pricing document Know the methods of measurement available for measuring construction work, their role within the contract and relationship with other documents Appreciate the difference between lump sum, re-measurement , target and cost plus contracts and how they vary the allocation of financial risks Apply the rules and procedures of the contract for dealing with errors and ambiguities Understand the procedures applying to interim and final, certificates and payments Recognise what constitutes a Variation on a contract and how they are to be valued valuations Deal with claims for loss and/or expense

Session 2 - Activity Schedules
The role and purpose of activity schedules; their preparation and application
Session 3 - Contract Bills
An analysis of the contractual status of Contract Bills; methods of measurement; correcting errors; SMM7 video presentation
Session 4 - Interim Payments
Examining the payment process under JCT contracts; entitlements; timescales; retention
Session 5 - Advanced Payments
Advanced payment provisions; advanced payment bonds
Session 6 - Valuing Variations
Examining the conditions of contract in relation to valuing Variations
Session 7 - Claims
Addressing loss and/or expense; procedures; entitlements; the relationship with extension of time provisions
Session 8 - Final Accounts
Final account procedures, timescales; entitlements; method of computation
