Pharm.D. in Clinical Pharmacy Pharm.D. in clinical pharmacy is a new academic degree added recently to the offered postgraduate degrees in the faculty of pharmacy.
This degree has been established by Prof. Dr. Nawal Mohamed Khalaf Allah (Professor of pharmaceutics &Vice-Dean for Graduate Studies & Research).
This degree is considered equivalent to master’s degree, as the one who gets this degree, can take the exam for philosophy doctorate degree. And the student of this academic degree should be free for studying, and should study for 2 consecutive years, and present a thesis, and should do clinical training in one of the university educational hospitals for 2 terms in the second year.
And here are the syllabi that should be studied to take the degree:
1. Basic Concepts:
Health policy, drug policy regulation, hospital pharmacy management and regulations, pharmaceutical services.
2. Pharmacotherapy:
Cardiology, Rheumatology, nephrology, dermatology, gastroenterology, hematology, respiratory diseases, neurology, psychiatry, oncology, infectious diseases.
3. Clinical Pharmacokinetics:
Drug pharmacokinetics in special populations, approach to drug dosing, therapeutic monitoring and applications in drug toxicity.
4. Biopharmaceutics:
Different types of drug interactions.
Drug delivery system & product selection by pharmacist.
5. Clinical Laboratory investigation:
Preparation of patient, sampling and factors affecting laboratory results.
Principles of methods & interception of laboratory medicine.
6. Pharmacoeconomics:
Health economics, application in hospital & cost effectiveness of pharmaceutical interventions.
7. Pharmacoepidemilogy:
Drug utilization studies clinical trials. Post marketing surveillance. Rational & irrational drug use.
