Project Management for Engineers, Planners and Managers

This 5-day programme develops the ability of participants from the Oil and Gas, utilities and similar industrial sectors to manage a project all the way from conception to close-out. It covers determining which projects should be selected, maximising business value, developing quality project execution planning, resourcing projects appropriately, determining contract strategy and managing risks and HSE.

The programme is developed for engineers and managers in businesses such as oil, gas, utilities and other industries who will be either managing or working on projects. It could also be beneficial to operations or support staff who communicate with, or contribute resources to projects from time to time, to enable them to understand and communicate with projects more effectively.

The objectives of this course are to provide participants with the ability to:

Reinforce their understanding of fundamental project management concepts and terminology
To understand the need for a stage gated decision making process to control project and financial risk
To understand the techniques and develop financial investment appraisal documentation to determine project viability and overall value
Prepare practical project documentation to properly control a project. This includes the development of Work Breakdown Structures, Network Diagrams, Gantt Charts and Resource Organisation charts
Manage HSE and understand the changing focus of HSE issues throughout the project life
Understand the importance of the contracting strategy and the need to manage contractors
Understand the different performance reports that can be made use of, but more importantly, how to read and interpret the reports to determine the project’s health
Manage project risk to maximise the chance of success
Manage the handover of the project to operations in terms of commissioning and operational readiness
Close the project down and the importance of knowledge management throughout the life of the project.
