The program is designed for those seeking qualifi cations for a career in teaching English to speakers of other languages. Career options might include working as a teacher, curriculum designer, language tester, education administrator or taking up associated responsibilities. The program offers a vocationally relevant degree, which will enable students to refresh and upgrade their knowledge and skills, or to develop new specialisations.

The Master of Arts (TESOL) and the Graduate Certificate in TESOL provide graduates with a professional qualification for teaching English to speakers of other languages.

TESOL at UWS is offered at the Bankstown campus, one of the most culturally and linguistically diverse regions of Australia. UWS TESOL values bi- and multilingualism, with our staff having extensive experience and expertise in the fields of TESOL, linguistics and languages.

The School works closely with UWSCollege and other language teaching providers in Sydney to organise internship placements, to access current industry trends, resources and expertise in teaching methodology, and to identify resources and trends in the field.

The new UWS internship program leads the field in connecting students with language teaching providers in Sydney. A TESOL qualification is a means of combining work and travelnopportunities, with employment opportunities readily available in Australia and other countries.

It equips students with an internationally valued skills set, enabling them to communicate and exchange ideas with people of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, and to learn more about other cultures and languages.

The Master of Education (TESOL) is a higher degree for both professional educators and for those who are interested in pursuing a research program beyond this degree. It is designed for those with teacher qualifications and experience, particularly in the ESL/ EFL field.

The Master of Education introduces participants to contemporary trends and issues in research, theory and practice. It provides students with an in-depth understanding of areas such as second language development, discourse analysis, pedagogical grammars, research methods, language assessment, English for specific purposes, and computer assisted language learning.

Students wishing to continue on to research degrees (Masters by Research, Doctor of Education or Doctor of Philosophy) can undertake preliminary research into an area of interest during their Masters program.

This program is designed for anyone who wants to teach English to non-native speakers of the language. In this program you will develop an understanding of language as a sociocultural meaning system. You will also develop skills in teaching English as a second language, develop communication and learning techniques and acquire the practical skills required to teach diverse language groups.

This course is highly practical and covers the following:
�an introduction to techniques for developing listening and speaking skills in English
�an introduction to techniques for reading and writing skills in English
�techniques for teaching grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation
�classroom management skills for teaching diverse language groups
�becoming familiar with a range of current teaching materials and learning techniques
�information about job opportunities overseas
�6 hours of observation and supervised teaching practice on TAFE ESOL classes
