Unix Advanced Shell Programming Tools The UNIX Operating system is supplied with a wealth of tools specifically designed for the programmer/developer. In addition to the basic vi editor and the Shell programming languages, there are tools available to assist a programmer/developer with regards to sorting, editing and control of files. A Pattern Scanning Utility called awk is provided to allow easy manipulation of structured data and the generation of formatted reports.
