Video Game Design and Development The Academy of Design’s Video Game Design and Development program was the first of its kind in Canada. Since the beginning, the Academy has been a leader in educating students in the entertainment industry’s fastest-growing sector. Even through recessionary times, Video Game Design has seen consistent growth. Revenues generated from new game releases often exceed Hollywood blockbuster movies. Ongoing improvement in software and computer technology has fuelled increased realism in today’s games, and leaders of today’s video game industry understand that the next generation of games will require even greater numbers of creative and skilled designers and programmers to keep pace.
Graduates of the Academy’s program are highly sought after in the indsutry. For instance, Ubisoft one of the world’s leading video game companies hired two Academy students eight months prior to graduation (2009) and many more will be needed when Ubisoft opens its new studio in Toronto. In July 2009, the company was offered a $263 million grant to create 800 jobs for new video game designers.
It takes those with vision to seize the challenges and opportunities offered by this field. The close-knit, interactive community created by the students, faculty and staff of the Academy’s Video Game Design and Development program is an environment which fosters inspired career choices, creative solutions, and a chance to be part of defining an educational tradition.
Students who love playing video games and feel a desire to create games of their own might be a perfect fit for the Academy’s program.
