Make a difference in the lives of children! The 16-month Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC) Diploma program prepares graduates to provide quality child care in a wide variety of settings and plan developmentally appropriate activities for the children in their care. Knowledge of child development, family dynamics, play, and program planning will equip graduates to support the healthy development of children through child-centered learning experiences.

The program combines theory and practice and graduates are eligible for Child Development Supervisor certification from Alberta Human Services (formerly referred to as Level 3).
Innovative Learning Lab

CDI College’s Early Childhood Education Advanced - Level III diploma program prepares students for roles as Daycare Directors, among other positions. Students enrolled in this program must have a pre-requisite of Early Childhood Level II certification and must undergo an interview process.

This program combines a theoretical and practical approach to instruction and meets the requirements of the Alberta Family and Social Services, Daycare Staff Qualifications Branch. Courses include lesson planning for developmentally challenged children, math and science, physical education, art, drama and music. Students also learn about daycare management and create a professional process portfolio.

By the end of the program, students will meet the requirements to obtain the Level II certification through Alberta Family and Social Services, Daycare Staff Qualifications Branch.

The diploma program covers child development, relationships, English courses, and programming and activities. Students will be taught to organize and manage lesson plans for young children, including fine arts, expressive arts, health and safety, storytelling, and self-esteem building. Interpersonal communications, organization, time management, and stress management skills are also developed.

Students participate in a 430-hour practicum in order to gain hands-on experience in a real-world ECE setting. Graduates of this program will be qualified for daycare jobs or may seek work in other child-oriented service centres.

The Early Childhood Education (ECE) Certificate offers students the essential knowledge and skills to provide high quality childcare and education in a variety of settings for children from birth to age 12. The Diploma program allows for specialization as either an Infant/Toddler Educator or a Special Needs Educator.

The ECE program is available online and/or in the classroom. Our certificate program accepts 40 new full-time students per year. The number of part-time students accepted is dependent on the seats available in each course (online or on campus).

Our program runs on a semesterized system: Fall, Winter and Spring. New students are expected to start in the Fall (September) of each year.
