Outdoor Survival

Learn why emergency situations develop, how to assess priorities, how to work through the emergency scenario and how to pro-actively avoid these situations in the first place. The format is one evening class and a weekend overnight field trip

Advanced Companion Rescue

Focus on companion rescue in avalanche terrain. This is an in depth look at the latest in beacon technology, search techniques for single, deep, serial single, and multiple burial scenarios. You will also practice digging techniques, rescue organization, and searching for a person without a signal.

Advanced Avalanche Risk Management

Course Format: On-Site / In-House / Private Tutoring

This course is designed for the experienced backcountry traveler who wants to take a leadership role in complex and/or remote areas. Curriculum includes elements of professional level training that are relevant to non-professionals.

Avalanche Skills

Course Format: On-Site / In-House / Private Tutoring
School/Trainer: University of Calgary Outdoor Centre

•Course Fee is $195 and includes: the Avaluator� use of transceiver, probe, shovel, manual, &, certificate.

� hrs of class instruction (either Saturday or 2 evenings) Field day is at Fortress Mountain.

•You do not need to be able to ski or snowboard to take this course

•This course meets the Canadian Avalanche Association guidelines for Avalanche Skills Training Level 1 (AST 1)

Orienteering

Orienteering is a great activity for everybody. You can saunter round the courses at a leisurely pace or turn it into a competition and race around!
Orienteering involves using a map to navigate yourselves around woodland or moorland to find hidden markers and clues and is a good way to improve your navigation and fitness and is popular with everybody. It is a great way to see the countryside.

The courses we use are ideal for groups of mixed ages so as to allow people of varying levels of fitness to work in teams to succeed and enjoy themselves. Great activity as part of a Stag and Hen day
We also provide prizes for each event so everyone is a winner!
An orienteering event can be combined with another activity to make a great day out. Orienteering is a highly effective activity to be built into a teambuilding package.

Orienteering events can be arranged in various locations in the Peak District including:

Adventure Lifesigns offers Bush Craft experiences. Bush Craft can aid to develop team cohesion and a sense of achievement. The sessions can be gentle and informative or more arduous and extravagant. As an example we can cover:
•Shelter building
•Fire Lighting
•Preparing of food and water
•Trapping
•Methods of Rescue

This is an activity that is only limited by the individual’s imagination and the group’s aims. It’s possible for groups to spend a night navigating by improvised means then enjoying a hearty soup around a fire and some well earned shut-eye under their very own shelter

Orienteering

Orienteering is a sport that combines running and navigating. Most orienteering events take place in forests, though they can be run on any kind of terrain, including open moorland, local parks, sand dunes, and even city streets.

Orienteering usually requires specially produced maps drawn at scales which show a high level of detail.

Wherever it occurs, orienteering usually involves visiting pre-designated places (called Controls) in a particular order. Orienteering involves thinking carefully about your route. Sometimes it will be quickest to go round paths; sometimes the faster route is a more direct one across rougher ground.
