Course Outline:
Spanish for EMTs & Paramedics is a self-paced, online Spanish course designed for EMTs, Paramedics, and Emergency Responders dealing with medical situations with the Spanish-speaking public. In addition to basic greetings and general Spanish vocabulary, the course also covers responding to emergencies, common injuries, water emergencies, body parts, organs, the examination, pain descriptions, patient care, asking for intake information, medical history, and insurance vocabulary.

Paramedic (Diploma)

The Emergency Medical Technologist �Paramedic (EMT-P) or Advanced Care Paramedic program is a competency based program designed to provide students with the necessary knowledge and skills to provide pre-hospital care to the sick and injured at an advanced life support level. There are a number of emergency response departments that provide this level of care to the citizens of Alberta through ambulance services. Registered paramedics will find employment with private and public emergency response companies and organizations.

The program combines on-site training with online learning and all required practicums. In addition to the co-requisite course, there are seven online courses covering the theory required of a registered paramedic. Five other on-site technical courses teach psychomotor skills over the two years, and a minimum of eight mandatory site days in the first year solidify psychomotor skills.

Three practicums are also required. The program is considered full time, students should plan to balance work, personal life and school accordingly.

Students are required to accumulate a minimum of 400 hours plus a minimum of 40 calls on an acute care ambulance during the first year of the program, although substantially more experience is highly recommended. Hospital transfers and industrial first

Community Paramedic

If so, you should consider enrolling in the first and only Community Paramedic certification training program in the U.S. at Hennepin Technical College (HTC) in Eden Prairie.

Accessible, flexible program
Whether you live in the Twin Cities metro area or greater Minnesota, you can be considered for the program if you have two years of paramedic experience. This accessible, innovative program will be offered this fall at HTC and run from Sept. 5 �Dec. 9, 2012. Cost is $1,884, plus $140 for textbooks. Students earn 12 college credits. Students study in the paramedic lab on a weekly basis and in Lambton’s Human Simulation Lab, which features high fidelity mannequins that can breathe, talk, and produce vital signs. Clinical training allows students to apply their skills in a state-of-the-art hospital and local ambulance service centres. Through the use of the DriveWise Simulator, students experience what it feels like to drive emergency vehicles in varied road conditions, in a safe and controlled environment.

Graduates apply relevant theory, practice safely and competently, and comply with current legislation, regulations, standards, and established policies and procedures. This program offers challenging career opportunities in emergency care services, health facilities, health care and related agencies.

Volunteer opportunities exist for students to assist with paramedic services. Some examples of these opportunities are: Sarnia Sting hockey games, Sarnia Bayfest, and local fundraising and entertainment events. Fitness is a major attribute for success in several areas of the program. A gym membership is strongly recommended. Access to a vehicle to be able to attend clinical sites in terms 1 and 2 is recommended.
