This course addresses how to prevent fires and recognize fire hazards. It will also discuss what actions to take in the event of a fire, including the proper use of portable fire extinguishers. The content in this course is designed to comply with the intent of the applicable regulatory requirements. Learner objectives are to: define the chemistry of fire, recognize common fire hazards, classify types of fires and fire extinguishers, identify the general requirements of egress (i.e., exit) standards, specify how to prevent workplace fires, identify how to respond to a fire, and specify the proper use of portable fire extinguishers.

This course has been designed to deliver firsthand information about fires and fire protection measures. After completing this course, you will be able to identify different types of fires and how safety measures can be taken to avoid a disastrous situation. We will also discuss the different types of fire extinguishers in use and discover how careful planning and precautionary measures can be taken to save lives and property.

The Public Service program is designed for working professionals and other students whose objectives are to obtain an A.A.S. degree or certificate in pursuit of upgrading employment in the area of the Fire Fighter Service or Emergency Medical Provider Services. 3. The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) program is designed for students seeking careers in emergency medicine. This program provides students with the knowledge and skills required to function within the Emergency Medical Services system.. All programs meet or exceed the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment requirements for certification eligibility.
4. A certificate of completion for the EMS/Paramedicine, Fire Science Technology, and Fire Service Management programs requires only the completion of the core EMS and/or FST coursework under each respective degree.

According to OSHA statistics, in the year 1995, 200 people were killed at workplace from fires and explosions, more than 5,000 were injured, and businesses faced the loss of around 2.3 billion dollars. Fires create havoc among workers and demolish thousands of businesses every year. Fires lead to injuries, deaths and time away from work due to recovery, all of which severely affect their livelihoods. In this course we will look at the basic causes of fires, injuries, rescue measures, and how we can handle them effectively and efficiently in order to save our lives as well as properties.

This course includes an overview of what is meant by and and how these valuable mnemonics are helpful in relation to fire safety. As well, gain an understanding of the various classes of fires and the appropriate type of extinguisher to use.

The goal of this introductory course is to reduce the financial and personnel cost of fires.

Objectives:
In this course, you will learn about the dangers of fire and the fundamentals of fire prevention. You will also learn about the requirements for emergency exit routes, the basic guidelines for responding to a fire alarm, and the basic guidelines for using a hand portable fire extinguisher. In addition, you will learn about the classes of fire, the types of portable fire extinguishers, and workplace requirements for portable fire extinguishers.
