Course Description:
'' General English (EGP) improves your English skills in conversation, listening, writing, reading and grammar. The aim is to give you the confidence to live and work in the English-speaking world. It is also excellent preparation for Academic English (EAP) programs.
You can enter at any level and progress at your own pace. Our teaching style encourages interactive language use so you will have many opportunities to practise the skills you are learning.
EGP courses include social activities and excursions.
EGP courses attract students from many different parts of the world. In your classes you will meet students from Central and South America, South East Asia, the Pacific, Europe, China, Japan and Korea.
Students can enter ongoing EGP programs any Monday. You can study for any length of time from two (2) to fifty (50) weeks a year. EGP courses are structured for flexible progress around five-week modules.
On a tourist visa, you can study EGP programs part-time for up to 12 weeks.
On a student visa, you can study full-time for longer.
Electives for EGP include: Writing Skills This is a basic writing course which will look at how to write clear, simple texts. It will also help student spreparing for EAP. Cinema Studies Looks at ways of talking about the movies using videos. This will help you understand movies in English and express your views about the movies you have seen. Good for speaking and listening skills. Speaking Skills Conversation skills for fluency and confidence in spoken English. You will become more skilful in social situations and in expressing your opinions on current issues. Exam Preparation TOEFL / Cambridge Exam taking strategies and activities for TOEFL. This course is useful for developing high-level grammar and listening skills, even if you are not going to sit for the exam. Grammar and Vocabulary This elective looks at problem areas of grammar at each level and helps you develop vocabulary through a variety of tasks and activities. Pronunciation Listening and speaking activities will improve your skills in pronunciation, stress and intonation. Listening / Songs This unit develops listening strategies and skills using songs, amongst other resources. Business English Language skills for success in commerce and industry. It will improve your business-related vocabulary while developing speaking, listening and reading skills with a business focus. ...''
