Course Description:

'' Join Adobe’s senior art director, the mad scientist "Dr. Brown" as he guides you through an amazing masking adventure. Learn some basic, intermediate, and advanced Photoshop techniques. The art of creating an accurate mask is the secret to all great images in Adobe Photoshop, and that’s what this class is all about. This two-day, hands-on class is taught using Adobe Photoshop CS4 Extended, but many of the principles and techniques can also be applied to Adobe Photoshop CS3.

Projects with Purpose
The goal is to help participants boost their knowledge, making their Adobe Photoshop projects more efficient by mastering masking. To achieve this, students works on a series of supplied masking in-class assignments using a problem-solving approach. Students are also invited to bring their most challenging masking projects to share. The best of these student images are reviewed to determine which of the just learned masking techniques would be appropriate for the task. Special prizes are awarded for the best of these student supplied masking projects. Remember, if Dr. Brown looks brilliant by solving your masking project, and can extract a perfect mask, then you win!

This class covers basic, intermediate, and advanced Photoshop techniques, including:
* An overview of the basic selection tools,
* The wonders of the Quick Select Tool,
* Working with clipping masks,
* Non-destructive background removal techniques,
* Rediscovery of the Extract Tool for refining masks,
* Masking with Blending Modes,
* Green screen extraction techniques,
* Masking with paths,
* The mysteries of the Knockout technique

But wait! There’s more!
To finish things off, students use their newly acquired masking skills to make lenticular stereograms, which create the illusion of three dimensions. This is done using the new 3D tools inside of Adobe Photoshop CS4 Extended. Participants design, print, and construct their final 3D poster during this event.

Prerequisite: an intermediate knowledge of Adobe Photoshop or completion of the PNM Intermediate Photoshop and Camera RAW class.
