'' This module aims to provide participants with a survey of the "big picture" trends that will impact on management decisions in Canada. A large amount of a manager’s time is spent on predicting external forces and analyzing the impact that these external forces will have on their organizations. Some of the issues covered in this module include, the current state of the Canadian economy, the opportunities and threats from globalization, competitiveness, productivity, the skills shortage, interest rates, the Canadian Dollar and other government policies including tax and spending policies.
Course Content This module will examine the major changes in Canadian and global environments that can impact management decision-making.
Topics covered in this module include: · The Changing structure of the Canadian economy; Winning and Losing Sectors · The increasing impact of globalization; Increased International Competition: Opportunity or Threat? · Demographic changes; What happens when there are not enough people? · Social and lifestyle changes; What do consumers want? What do employees want? · The future of work and the market for skills; Growing, buying and keeping Brains. · Technological change; and, The Information Revolution—beyond the Dot.Com bubble. · Regulatory and political changes. What can governments do to you and for you? ...''
