'' The course is intended to provide students with an understanding of both fundamental and practical approaches to the use of Microsoft Project to manage both individual and multiple projects. The components of Microsoft Project that effectively meet the needs of each of the five fundamental phases of the project management lifecycle (Initiating, Planning, Executing, Controlling and Closing) will be discussed, demonstrated, and illustrated with examples of both effective and ineffective techniques. At the end of the course, student will be able to: Create an initial project plan based on project requirements and scope Understand the relationships among Effort, Duration, and Units for Tasks Assign resources, materials, and equipment to the project in cost effective ways. Identify the critical path and optimize the schedule for time Find the resource-leveled critical path and optimize for time, cost, and scope. Establish project baselines, and understand when and why to update baselines. Understand both the correct and incorrect ways to update project status. Provide both standard and customized reports to Senior Management Create a common resource pool for use among multiple projects Create project plans comprised of multiple projects Complete the Foundations of Project Management scheduling exercise with speed and confidence ...''
