Training Course:Service Oriented ArchitectureSchool/Trainer:Brandeis University Rabb School of Continuing Studies Waltham, Massachusetts, United States
Course Format: Classroom | E-learning | Virtual Class | Online | On-site | Blended | Self-paced
Course Description:
'' Todays modern enterprises are completely dependent on their Information Technology systems. As a result, enterprise IT today is driven by the same dynamics as the enterprise itself and must exhibit an extremely high level of flexibility and agility. The constantly increasing pressures on IT requires the efficient reuse of existing systems while simultaneously developing new functionality and constantly adapting to changing business requirements. These pressures have evolved distributed enterprise computing into todays service oriented architecture (SOA).
SOA has transformed the focus of enterprise computing from fine-grained, technology-oriented entities to business-centric services with business-level transaction granularity. This graduate level course explores SOA as an architectural blueprint which incorporates and integrates many different technologies with a focus on defining cleanly cut service contracts with a clear business orientation. The course investigates the fundamental principles system and application architects need to establish SOA at the enterprise level. The course will provide the student of enterprise IT with the core service oriented concepts and best practices for designing and implementing a distributed enterprise computing architecture.
The course focuses on architecture, organization and lessons drawn from real-world examples. The student will learn how IT architecture is the technical enabler for an SOA and how the IT architecture and the business organization are mutually dependent. The major topics covered include identifying services, assigning appropriate service types, and allocating ownership of data to services. Consideration is given to the design of a functional infrastructure for business processes and how to achieve process integrity, approach heterogeneity, and initiate the technical infrastructure. The student will develop an understanding of the benefits of SOA to various enterprise stakeholders, the cost savings and effectiveness of SOA, the technical and organizational processes necessary to succeed in SOA, and the value of adding SOA to an enterprises IT strategy. ...''
