Course Description:
'' This is an introduction to several UNIX tools and techniques: common commands, shells and shell programming, regular expressions, sed, awk, cron, make and a skimming of Perl. Comparisons to Windows will be used to illustrate similarities and differences and to illuminate the UNIX system. This is a lecture course, supported by live demonstrations. The course includes weekly homework assignments, a midterm and final exams. All exams are take-home.
The course is intended for those who want to use UNIX for technical and scientific endeavors.
