Course Description:

'' Canoeing encourages the students to have fun developing water confidence, experience working as a team of 2/3 being responsible for steering and keeping the boat upright and on longer trips some effort is required and staying power is called for. They also have the opportunity to learn the water etiquette and see local wildlife.

Before getting onto the water, students will be taught the general principals of lifting and moving the canoe safely, getting in and out of the canoe at shore, how to sit in the boat, the basic use of the paddle and what to do in the event of a capsize.

Once on the water, games are used to learn the basic paddle strokes for forward paddling, turning and stopping. The students will then have the opportunity to do a short trip. There are a number of areas suitable within 5-20 minutes drive.

It is not necessary for the students to be able to swim as they are equipped with buoyancy aids.

The students will always be accompanied by a qualified instructor who will endeavour the make the activity memorable, fun and to create an environment where the students feel safe and free to express their concerns as well as their delights.
