Course Description:

'' Field Studies provide the opportunity for students to link what they are learning in school with the outdoor environment.

A stay at Lagganlia provides a fantastic opportunity for children and young people to notice, enjoy and appreciate the exquisite scenery, fauna and flora of the Cairngorms National Park. They are encouraged to be more aware of the fragile environment and how to preserve and look after it.

Instructors and teachers together create a program that fits in with the school project syllabus and can also be linked into Scottish Access Code work.

Experiencing work in the field can have a lasting effect of students and creates more enthusiasm back in the classroom.

One example is a number of schools in the area and the local Water Board worked together on a project around the Spey River with the focus being highlighting the use of the river, the pressure put on that environment etc. The pupils then had the opportunity to do a number of water-based activities and in the evening presented their talks, demonstrations and/or arguments.

Another popular type of course is Art in the Environment, where students are encouraged to create something out of what is already available to them. The activity is only limited to the imagination of the young people and type of knowledge the instructor specialises in.

Throughout the instructor’s aim to make each activity informative and fun and to help the students see nature from a different view point.
