Training Course:Spanish to foreign studentsSchool/Trainer:The National Registration Center for Study Abroad Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain
Course Format: Classroom | E-learning | Virtual Class | Online | On-site | Blended | Self-paced
Course Description:
'' The School of Language has specialized in the teaching of Spanish to foreign students since 1964. In all these years many thousands of students have attended the school, with many returning for follow-up studies in later years. The teachers are highly specialized and have a great deal of experience.
The school occupies a 2 story building beside Las Canteras Beach of Las Palmas. The school has its own restaurant on the terrace to serve breakfast and meals to students. Established in a downtown Las Palmas, the classrooms are simple, with teachers and students working together around a table to encourage conversation. The atmosphere is informal, and during coffee breaks one is likely to find students of all nationalities trying out their Spanish over cafe con leche and a pastry. The informality carries over to weekly excursions (destination of the students choosing) which often include a cookout and impromptu lesson in Canarian folk songs accompanied by the native timple.
The School of Language has been recognized since 1986 by the German Government as a collaborator in teaching Spanish (Bildungsurlaub) for professional training. The school is also recognized by the Education Council of the Canary Government. In 1994 and on its 30th anniversary, the school was officially congratulated by the Canary Government through the Tourism Board of Gran Canaria as well as by the Town Council of Las Palmas through its Tourism Councillor for its many years of good work.
Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Since Spain forms part of the European Union the Canary Islands are the southernmost part of Europe and can be called "Tropical Europe". The Archipelago consists of seven main islands and its average coastal temperature is neither cold in winter (19ºC) nor hot in summer (25ºC) which allows the practice of all kinds of water sports the whole year round. Nature has been generous with the Canary Islands which have 5 of the 9 National Parks of Spain. The Islands all rose from the depths in a series of successive eruptions, a long process which is still in progress today. There is a whole range of settings found in them; from the imposing grandeur of peaks and mountains ranges to the most hidden valleys, passing through sandy deserts, abrupt rock cliffs, geometrically perfect craters and forests of impressive beauty.
Gran Canaria is the second largest island in the Archipelago and because of its different landscapes and variety of climates it bears the title of "Miniature Continent". In the south one can find the tourist resort of Playa del Ingles visited by more than 2,000,000 tourists per year, with sand dunes and golden sand beaches. In the central area there are high mountains covered by forests and even snow during winter. The islands also have deep valleys full of tropical fruits and flowers. In the north lies the main town of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The island is crossed by a modern highway linking with the airport.
Gran Canaria is connected by air service to many major European cities via scheduled and chartered flights. From USA or Japan the ticket to Las Palmas (via Madrid) costs only a little more than the flight from home to Madrid.
Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has 400,000 inhabitants and four different main areas. These varying elements give the city a very cultural and cosmopolitan atmosphere. • The 500 year old district of Vegueta, with colonial houses, museums, the theater, the cathedral. • The tourist area with 3 km of beautiful beach and the newly reformed promenade full of restaurants, pubs and shops. • The port, which is the most important of the Atlantic, and is close to the North African coast. • The University with more than 20,000 students in all faculties ...''
