'' SAE-LA introduced the Digital Film Editing Certificate because we saw a strong need to train film editors. Not only because of the number of opportunities out there, but more so because there are so many people who have a strong desire to do their own work as independent filmmakers, or for those who simply do it as a hobby. The technology has evolved as such to make the tools available to everyone, and our Film Editing certificate teaches you how to do use it. This is not a directing or complete filmmaking course as is the SAE Diploma in Digital Film Production. While such aspects are discussed in the course, there is a very strong focus on everything that happens after the filming: capturing, editing, compositing, visual effects, etc.
The Diploma level Digital Film Production course is a much more expansive, thorough and rigorous program. Offered strictly as a full time course, DFP covers nearly every aspect of what is required to make a film �and the students do so during the program. Projects range from shorts to documentaries and music videos, finishing off with the thesis project under the direction of an advisor and course coordinator for the program.
