Course Description:

'' Work in NOLS�sailing program begins at NOLS Mexico. The 22-foot Drascombe Longboat will be your vessel for this course, and experienced sailors will find it an ideal boat for teaching novices. You’ll become well-versed in desert camping practices as you move from beach to beach along the coast of the Gulf of California. You will likely see a good amount of the area’s wildlife, from pelicans and dolphins to scorpions and tarantulas.

Sail theory, weather assessment, boat repair, and fleet communication are all components of the curriculum on this course, and you will be evaluated on your ability to skipper a boat with students. Your instructors will also give you a thorough example of the expected classes taught on any NOLS course. But you’ll have the chance to do some teaching as well, as you and your peers take on both basic and advanced classes throughout the course. Work in our keelboat sailing programs will typically take more training, but we expect graduates of our Sailing Instructor Course to be able to work any of our Mexico sailing courses.
