'' Controlling your system This course is designed to give delegates practical experience in the administration of an general SVR4 compatible UNIX System. As it is a generic course, some of the differences between different vendors�implementations will be noted. Practical work will concentrate on the basic SVR4 commands underlying the vendor-specific administration menu systems. Course Objectives To provide the knowledge and skills needed to maintain successful day-to-day operation of a UNIX system. Skills Gained Add, change and delete users and user groups. Configure Login files. Run background tasks at regular intervals. Create file systems. Mount, monitor and repair file systems. Back up and restore files and directories using standard utilities. Manage Swap space. Add printers to the system. Monitor and control print jobs. Start and shut down the system. Customising startup and shutdown procedures. Monitor system performance with the sar utility. Configure syslog to manage system event messages. Carry out various housekeeping procedures to manage disk space. ...''
