Course Description:

'' Book Design is the art of incorporating the content, style, format, design, and sequence of the various components of a book into a coherent whole. This workshop outlines not only the various stages of constructing the design elements of a book, it also encourages the participants to relate with more than singularly visual sensibilities to books, by the enticement of a well-designed jacket, the pages�texture, the interior layout or the choice of typeface.

More so, think about your first experience with books as a child or a young adult �the excitement of holding the book in your hands for the first time, the titillation of the possible worlds within, and your feeling of absolute mastery in your private power to control both the rhythm and speed of its unfolding. You who created the visual elements of a future bestseller!

Typography selection
Front and back covers
Endpapers
Designing the front/back covers and spine of dust-jackets
Creating editorial and production flow
Binding; choosing the proper book binding from hardbound to softbound
