Course Description:

'' The NVQ Level 1 in Hairdressing is held at The Hub. It is a competency based programme of 6 units studied at the students own pace, therefore the period of study varies dependent on ability, commitment and time allocated.

The units of study are:
Ensure your own actions reduce the risks to Health and Safety
Assist with Salon Reception Duties
Shampoo and Condition hair
Contribute to the development of Effective Working Relationships
Assist with Colouring services
Prepare for Hairdressing Services and Maintain Work Areas


The programme includes practical hairdressing and oral/written question assessments which are carried out in the college’s well equipped modern salon, where members of the public are our clients. All students are actively involved in the salon’s reception area, controlling stock and retail products.

Students are also required to complete written assignments (alternative arrangements are available for students with writing/learning difficulties) and compile a portfolio for assessment. Each individual student is responsible for their learning and can progress at their own pace. Time is allocated with a personal tutor to guide, monitor and assess students’ progress.
