'' Science teachers need to understand the relationship of science to the citizen, in terms of the processes used to analyze and make decisions on critical social issues created by science, so that they can engage their students in discussions of the costs and benefits, risks, alternative solutions, and the relationship of these issues to the knowledge, goals and values of the students. A second key topic covered in this course is how to involve members of the community, including students, in the fruitful application of science in their lives. To achieve this aim, teachers need to know how to identify areas where science is relevant to community life and to unfold this relevance in cooperation with their students and other community members. ...''
