'' Course Objectives:
Introduce delegates to the general principles of sustainable urban drainage with emphasis on source control measures and practices relevant to new housing developments
Demonstrate how to evaluate source control options and select appropriate measures and designs
Be aware of the opportunities and constraints in applying source control in storm foul water drainage.
Course Outline:
Introduction to wastewater drainage and Sustainable Urban Drainage
What is source control, and why use it (benefits)?
The practice of source control - "soft" and "hard" measures
Source control for storm runoff (e.g. porous paving, soakaways, infiltration trenches, swales, rainwater harvesting, detention ponds, landscaping, etc)
Source control for domestic foul water - wastewater reuse systems
The concept of Best Management Practices (BMP) in source control
Issues arising from implementation of source control systems ? pollution control, emergency procedures, maintenance and inspections
Future directions

Learning Outcomes:
At the end of the course the delegate should:

Appreciate the key role source control can play in wastewater and runoff management
Know the various contemporary practices of source control
Be able to evaluate and select appropriate source control measures for a given site, and be able to carry out simple design calculations for some types of source control systems ...''
