Understand contingency management Course Outline: Session 1 INTRODUCTION
An introduction to the course schedule and to the details of the live project as the vehicle for planned outcomes.
Session 2 PLANNING SUCCESS AND FAILURE
A focus on the role of planning in successful project management with particular emphasis on the perspective of ON TIME:ON COST AND ON QUALITY in the post-EGAN period of construction change. Factors contributing to planning failures.
Session 3 WORK BREAKDOWN STRUCTURE
An exercise in the identification of primary and secondary activities on the live project. How to break any project down to its sub-packages and relevant cost centres etc.
Session 4 PRODUCTIVITY OUTPUTS AND RESOURCE REQUIREMENTS
The quantification of activity durations and resource requirements from typical production factors. An essential step in the planning process.
Session 5 NETWORKS:-PRECEDENCE /ACTIVITY-ON THE ARROW/PERT
A familiarisation with manual programming in appreciation of the needs of software data input and logic.
Session 6 RISK MANAGEMENT
A proactive perspective in identifying factors that can jeopardise the success of the most carefully planned project together with financial consideration of mitigation.
Session 7 CONTINGENCY MANAGEMENT
An update on project progress and a focus on the viability of acceleration in response to slippage and key date deliverables.
Session 8 REVIEW
The above methodology will be delivered via a live project utilising Power Point projection facilities. The live project provides the basis for the team-based approach throughout the day. Worked examples will be provided to each sessions exercise.
