Training Course:The French ConnectionSchool/Trainer:The Juilliard School New York City, New York, United States
Course Format: Classroom | E-learning | Virtual Class | Online/Live | On-site/In-house | Blended | Self-paced
Course Description:
'' This course will concentrate on the great French composers from three distinct historical periods: François Couperin and Jean-Philippe Rameau from the Baroque era; Hector Berlioz, Gabriel Fauré, Claude Debussy, and Maurice Ravel from the 19th century; and Olivier Messiaen and the group of composers known as “Les Sixfrom the modern era. French composers have always been on the cutting edge, revolutionary, and dedicated to everything new and different. We will attempt to prove this statement by considering such works as the Debussy masterpiece, Pelléas et Mélisande, and Messiaens deeply-felt Quartet for the End of Time. A wide variety of types of music will be surveyed as we look at songs, piano sonatas, string quartets, symphonies, tone poems, and of course, several different types of operas. It has been said that French music .. enlivens the spirit, intrigues the mind, and always ... captures the heart. And when we connect this great music to the equally admired poetry of such men as Baudelaire, Valery, and Paul Verlaine, then we truly have a unique and profound art form. ...''
