Course Description:

'' The essence of being an effective leader lies in establishing good interpersonal work relationships and having the ability to get things done through people who may work outside of formal reporting lines. Leaders can’t take a cookie cutter approach to managing and influencing people. A leadership style that motivates and inspires one individual might plunge another into poor performance. This programme looks at strategies to adapt leadership styles and establish influencing strategies to enable leaders to get their good ideas heard, accepted, and enacted. Participants learn how to package their ideas to gain the commitment of even the most sceptical co-workers and colleagues.

Leaders will learn how to tailor their approaches based on others motivations, personality styles, the organisational environment, and the situation. By better meeting the needs of each individual, leaders create higher levels of engagement and improve organisational results.

Topics Covered
DDI leadership programmes have been developed based on global research and are run in some of the worlds most successful organisations.

Essentials of Leadership �Participants learn and apply a set of tools to meet both practical business needs and people’s personal needs during interactions. The seven leadership imperatives are explored, along with the leaders role as a catalyst �one who sparks action in others.

Adaptive Leadership �Participants are introduced to the Adaptive Leadership Model and walked through an example of effective use of the Adaptive Leadership Process. The Discussion Goals tool help participants decide which approach to take: provide an understanding; gain buy-in; or empower an individual? Participants explore the personal tendencies typically seen in the workplace and the opportunities/challenges those behaviours present and plan an adaptive strategy based on techniques learned to deal with this.

Influential Leadershi �Participants explore the value of building commitment through positive influence rather than relying on position power, they will work their way through a framework for developing an influencing strategy. This component of the course focuses on ensuring staff involvement and engagement by actively managing commitment.

Building Winning Partnerships �This module helps leaders identify their role in establishing alliances among work groups, management, customers, and suppliers. Participants are introduced to partnership success factors, checkpoints and scorecards. They learn how to establish effective partnerships to meet customer needs by developing strategies for gaining peoples commitment to working together.
