Course Description:
'' This four-day intensive course covers RF amplifier design techniques. You learn RF amplifier basics including amplifier classes, linearity and efficiency, DC & AC biasing, narrowband matching techniques using the Smith Chart, and noise figures of both single and cascaded stages. After understanding the basics, you learn more advanced techniques including stability, Q-factors, techniques to improve linearity including feed-forward and pre-distortion, broadband matching techniques, and semiconductor materials. The class will conclude with a design example: A power amplifier for an 802.11n transmitter.
After taking this class, you understand how to design RF amplifiers for wireless transmitters, understand the difference between amplifier classes (including A, B, AB, C, D), and how to use the Smith Chart to design matching networks. In addition, you will understand how the dynamic ranges of wireless transmitters are limited by noise figure, 1dB compression point, and 3rd harmonic intercept point. Furthermore, you learn how to improve amplifier linearity using techniques such as feed-forward and digital pre-distortion. Finally, you also understand how to choose a semiconductor material (such as Silicon, GaAs, LDMOS, GaN) for your design requirements. You learn concepts through theoretical design examples and a practical RF Amplifier demonstration. ...''
