Course Format: Classroom | E-learning | Virtual Class | Online/Live | On-site/In-house | Blended | Self-paced
Course Description:
'' This three-day course introduces healthcare practitioners to a collaborative approach to supporting clients in making lifestyle changes. Recognizing the patient as a partner in decision-making, rather than as a passive recipient of prescriptive advice, and setting achievable goals together, will improve patient compliance to new regimens, as well as build mutual trust and satisfaction. This is particularly important when dealing with patients with chronic diseases or with a need to make sustainable lifestyle changes.
The framework and state-of-the-art skills taught in this course give healthcare practitioners with no prior background in counseling or psychotherapy an effective and practical way of conducting their usual short patient interviews to yield personal and relevant information they might otherwise miss, to uncover resistances to the medical regimen, and to help patients address key personal issues. In addition, the framework gives them goal-setting and tracking models to help support patients implement changes incrementally and successfully.
Programme benefits Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:
Communicate more effectively with patients, ensuring their collaboration and personal responsibility Better understand underlying attitudes and habits resulting in noncompliance Use effective communications and coaching skills like active listening, mirroring, incisive questioning, goal-setting, mindfulness, etc Use a simple lifestyle-change framework to augment medical expertise during regular client interviews Learn models to apply to specific issues and many self-awareness tools to suggest for patients to keep them focused on their change process at home Conduct a lifestyle change program from the intake session, through the incremental stages of change, to the successful embedding of new habits Create a client-centred culture in your practice. ...''
