Course Description:

'' The term ’strategy’ is one which has become frequently used (and abused) in management. Application of the term to a variety of business activities at a variety of organisational levels has created some confusion about its true meaning. Strategy is important for all managers - to differing degrees - and it is obviously preferable to develop expertise in strategy before, rather than after, assuming a position of power and influence in an organisation.

There are seven main topics in this course. Presenting strategy in this way has the advantage of breaking down this rather complex subject into bite-sized pieces. In this way you can gain an appreciation of the significance of each segment before moving onto the next one. Although strategy does comprise a number of separate activities, none of these can be practised in isolation from the others.

Who should attend?
The course is designed for anyone who is involved in developing and implementing strategy at a business or functional level.

Learning outcomes
By the end of this course, you will:
- be able to view all other management practices in a cohesive manner - as components in the overall process of enhancing long-run organisational performance
- have an understanding of the theory and principles of strategic management and the resulting ability to practise ’strategic thinking’
- gain the ability to perceive issues from an overall organisational perspective rather than from the perspective of a functional or technical specialist, and therefore will understand the major strategic options available to every organisation
- possess a methodology and specifically a thinking tool that will move strategy from an abstract ’senior level, long term’ view to a practical action-oriented master plan that will result in things (actually) being done.
