Course Description:
'' This course provides a broad overview of data bus (aka network) technology with emphasis on the major buses MIL-STD-1553 (also designated SAE AS 15531) and ARINC 429. These two buses are the current workhorses found in most modern military and civil aircraft and, despite their age, they continue to be used in newer aircraft as well. The first day covers the fundamentals of data buses and their applications, as well as the regulations and standards regarding the use of them. Example data bus architectures are discussed. One day each is spent on MIL-STD-1553 and ARINC 429, describing in detail their application on modern aircraft. Topics include basic bus structure and control, word description, redundancy, and fault tolerance. Internationally recognized experts who have guided the evolution of these buses from their very beginnings lead these discussions. The course concludes with a review of four emerging buses: MIL-STD-1760, Firewire, Time Triggered Protocol (TTP), and Avionics Full Duplex Switched Data Network (AFDX). ...''
