'' In Storage Design Essentials, you will learn how to analyze customer requirements, complete a detailed needs assessment and apply a methodology to design the correct Cisco SAN solution and optimize that solution using performance tuning features.

You will learn what questions to ask in order to perform needs analysis and determine the correct design requirements and SAN design alternatives. SAN design alternatives will include applying the benefits of multi-protocol support using Fiber Channel, FCIP and iSCSI as well as optical-based SAN extension protocols such as DWDM, CWDM and SONET. You will create SAN designs against customer specifications and you will be able to justify these designs based on capabilities and cost. You will also learn how to successfully apply the PDIO model to the deployment of Cisco storage area networks.

This course is reinforced with extensive case studies including: Designing a small SAN, migrating data between multiple locations, designing a SAN for long-haul disaster recovery and backup. In addition, you will understand how to design SANs for security, traffic management, high availability, scalability, and WAN link performance.

In this course you will learn how to:

Assess user requirements for SAN reliability, availability, performance, security, and scalability, so that the assessment can be used as the basis for a storage networking solution
Design a multi-protocol SAN fabric configuration using Cisco storage networking platforms, so that the configuration provides the required levels of high availability, performance, security, and cost-effectiveness
Design remote SAN connectivity solutions, so that the configuration provides the required levels of high availability, performance, and cost-effectiveness to meet customer¡¯s assessment needs
Design a management infrastructure for Cisco storage networking platforms, so that the management infrastructure provides the appropriate levels of availability and security, and integrates with the customer¡¯s in-house management systems
Design SANs for peak performance using traffic management, QoS, and WAN link performance features.
