1. Introduction : Hydrologic cycle and drainage basin. Geomorphology of Drainage basin �origin and formation of rivers, metedrological principles. Drainage basin as a deterministic system �estimation of evaporation, evapotranspiration and rate of infiltration precipation measurements by radar etc.
2. Runoff process : Hydrograph and its components. Rainfall run-off correlations. Water shed simulation flow duration curve and mass curve.
3. Hydrograph analysis : Unit hydrograph and its use. Bernard’s distribution graph. S-Hydrograph. Instantaneous unit hydrograph. Synthetic unit hydrograph. Unit hydrograph from complex storm.
4. Flood estimation : Design flood, Estimation methods, unit hydrograph method. Statistical methods �flood frequency analysis, Gumbal’s process. Chow’s method, design storm, stochastic process.
5. Flood control : Flood control by reservoirs, embankment methods. Channel improvement and channel diversions, soil conservation method. Flood zoning, Economics of flood control. Flood control problems. Principles of flood control planning.
6. Flood routing : Flood routing techniques. Channel routing. Reservoir routing. Watershed routing etc. electric analogs. Inflow outflow correlation. Routing machines.
7. Flood forecasting : Need and problems. Forecasting Procedures and methods. Organization of forecasting service. Weather forecast. Case study.
8. Reservoir studies : Type of reservoirs, water availability and water balance, reservoir capacity design. Reservoir operation-working tables. Sedimentation problems and life of reservoirs.
