'' Evaluation of aquifer properties. Aquifer tests. Pumping test analysis for unconfined,
semiconfined and confined aquifers with steady and nonsteady
conditions.
2.0 Ground water exploration. Surface geophysical methods. Subsurface geophysical
methods. Tracer techniques.
3.0 Remote sensing for ground water exploration. Introduction. Mapping aquifers controlled
by lithology. Folded structures. Fracture, Denudational land forms. Fluvial land forms.
Coastal land forms. Deolian land forms. Mapping of aquifers on the basis of surface water
bodies and soil moisture.
4.0 Assessment of ground water. Parameter of ground water balance. Estimation of recharge
components. Estimation of ground water discharge. Ground water resources evaluation.
5.0 Development and management of ground water. Assessment of need. Hydrologic
balance. Withdrawals of ground water. Ground water quality system approach. Well
interference. Yield of aquifer. Over draft. Response of aquifer to ground water
development. Land subsidence due to ground water withdrawals.
6.0 Ground water pollution and legislation. Mechanism of pollution source and causes of
pollution. Agricultural pollution. Preventive measures for ground water pollution. Ground
water legislation.
7.0 Salt water intrusion. Salinity flux in estuaries. Zone of diffusion. Slope, shape and
movement of interface. Prevention and control.
8.0 Conjunctive use of surface and ground water. Concept and definations.
Objectives/advantages of conjuctive use. Principles of conjunctive use in water resources
planning and management. Constraints involved in conjuctive use planning. Detailing the
conjunctive use plan. Space integration strategy. Time integration strategy. Space and
time integration strategy. Deciding the quantum of conjunctive use. Deciding ground water
status and ground water balance “without project�condition. Deciding additional ground
water recharge in the “with project�condition. Economic analysis of projects with
conjunctive use. ...''
