Training Course:

Advanced Strength of Materials Workshop

School/Trainer:

Global Innovative Campus
Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

Course Format: Classroom | E-learning | Virtual Class | Online/Live | On-site/In-house | Blended | Self-paced

Course Description:

'' This course covers advanced engineering techniques to perform closed-form solutions to engineering problems in mechanics of materials principles and solid mechanics. It teaches mechanisms to solve engineering problems by employing the strength of materials theories under different loading conditions. This knowledge is very important for mechanical engineers as well as technologists and design specialists. It can be applied to analyze different engineering problems. The first part of the course is intended to introduce advanced concepts in the structural analysis of beams, which are the fundamental building blocks of mechanical structures. Emphasis is placed on the structural analysis of beams of arbitrary cross-sections under bending, shear and torsional loading. The second part of the course aims at teaching the basic principles of the linear theory of elasticity and its application to practical engineering problems. Theory of Elasticity provides exact solutions for the relatively simple configurations of loading and boundary conditions, and it provides a check on the limitations of mechanics of material approach. Findings of theory of elasticity approach yield important results for the strength of structures, under certain critical loading situations, which is extremely important in design. Theory of elasticity also serves as the basis of approximate solutions employing numerical analysis.

Course Objectives:

The objective of this course is to introduce advanced topics in solid mechanics through the “strength of materials approach This approach will be employed to analyze deformable bodies and to teach attendees how to apply this knowledge in the solution of engineering problems. The course also aims at equipping them with the necessary background to analyze the loading and the resulted stresses in the mechanical structures. The course is constructed to:

Develop theoretical basis of the strength of materials with sound mathematical principles and to enable attendees to systematically solve engineering problems regardless of difficulty level
Develop confidence and competence in solving intermediate to advanced level of strength of materials problems for design purposes
Master the basic mechanics of materials topics of axial loading, transverse loading of straight and symmetric beams and torsion of circular and non-circular cross-sections…etc. ...''
