Course Description:
'' Project planning, scheduling, and control is a very important function for project management. It represents the time estimating and tracking of the project. Projects that run behind schedule cost the contractor losses, while a contractor may earn bonuses for accelerating schedules. Project scheduling is a science and not just experience, trial and error, or gut feeling. This seminar is applicable to any type of project and it is an essential part of the overall project management. Topics include bar charts, logic networks, the Critical Path Method (CPM) calculations, creation of CPM schedules, analysis of float, precedence networks (PDM), schedule updating, project control and Earned Value analysis, resource allocation and leveling, schedule compression (acceleration), and tricks and tips for better project scheduling. The seminar contains many definitions, concepts, practical examples, and exercises. Although the seminar contains many references to software programs, its main objective is to teach the fundamentals, not computer applications.
Objectives: Understand the concept of planning and scheduling projects and the importance of planning and scheduling projects Learn how to create and read bar (Gantt) charts and node networks Understand the concept of the Critical Path Method (CPM) in scheduling projects and how to perform CPM calculations and the definition of terminology relating to CPM Learn the steps involved in creating a CPM schedule for any project. Also learn the concept of Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and its applicability in project scheduling Learn how to update projects to reflect actual performance as part of the project control effort. Also, learn the Earned Value concept with simplified examples Learn the Precedence Diagramming Method (PDM), the four types of relationships, lags and leads; and how to apply CPM calculations to PDM. Also get a brief idea on other scheduling methods such as PERT and LSM Learn the concept of resource loading and resource leveling and apply the concept to a simplified example Discussion of a variety of scheduling related topics such as float analysis, delay claim prevention and analysis Learn the concept of schedule compression and the techniques involved to crash projects Get tips for better and more efficient scheduling and reporting including many software hints ...''
