Course Description:
'' Youll complete a series of instructional modules and associated problems and quizzes using a web browser and ArcView 9.x on a Windows computer at home, at work, or at UNB. The first eight modules introduce basic GIS concepts and ArcView use. These youll access in ESRIs Virtual Campus course, Learning ArcGIS 9. Youll also complete three Forestry Modules via WebCT at UNB. The first module, Forest Inventory, introduces ArcView application in building, extending, maintaining and accessing forest inventories, including creating and using a geodatabase. The second module, Forest Mapping, introduces the power of ArcView in composing thematic maps commonly used in forestry, and in producing a cover type map. The third module, Forest Analysis, emphasizes using ArcView as an analytical tool in assessing and protecting forest values. You also have an original application project to complete. And, there is a final exam. In the end, youll have learned the ArcGIS interface, as well as basic mechanics involved in composing maps and working with a forest inventory. You will also have mastered advanced analytical techniques, and developed strong GIS problem-solving skills. ...''
